Prevention

The first step to tackling COVID is to stop transmission. Efforts that achieve this include:

  • Vaccinations - Vaccinations are a shortcut to individual immunity to the virus. If the virus cannot survive in your body, it cannot spread.
  • Proper Preventative Practices - By following proper preventative practices, you can reduce opportunties for the virus to enter your system. Practices include:
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Practicing hand sanitation and respiratory etiquette
    • Social distancing (at least six feet)
  • Testing - In order to stop the spread of COVID, we need to be able to identify where it is present. Accurate and quick testing allows us to identify sources for COVID, and act accordingly.
  • Quarantine - Once individuals with COVID are identified, proper care and facilities for isolation is needed to prevent further spread.

Treatment / Care

The second step to tackling COVID is to ensure proper treatment and care to those who are affected by COVID.

  • Quarantine - In addition to preventing spread, quarantining allows medical professionals to treat patient in more controlled settings.
  • Adequate Medical Equipment - Equippng our frontline medical professionals with not only the correct equipment, but also enough equipment to effectively treat patients.
  • Repurposing Drugs - Although there is no anti-viral treatment for COVID yet, repurposing existing drugs can help treat symptoms and provide patients with the extra time and energy to fight off the virus.
  • Anti-Viral Treatment - Development of an anti-viral treatment is the most effective way to treat a virus, but requires high developmental costs to ensure safety and efficacy.

Lifestyle

Last, but not least, we need efforts to provide everyone with the support system needed to deal with the new normal.

  • Essential Services - These are services deemed critical to maintain daily operations in each city or state. We need to continue support for these services, and help build in flexibility for life in quarantine.
  • Financial Support - Every country, business, and resident has felt the economic impact created by the COVID pandemic. In order for us to rebuild, we must helps support the lives and businesses that fuel our economy.
  • Mental Health - Many individuals are facing increased stress because of the uncertainty around COVID. In addition, the precautions set for everyone’s safety can make people feel isolated and lonely . Therefore, we need ways to care for our mental health, while putting safety at the forefront.
